There's no better time than Sunday, October 3, 2010 to explore behind the doors of the city's hidden treasures. That's when OAPA presents its 34th Annual House Tour. It's your chance to see firsthand the revitalization efforts of two center-city neighborhoods. Old Allentown – the city's oldest historic district – and Old Fairgrounds will be showcased on this tour of 'Old City.' Whether you stroll the neighborhoods or enjoy the free trolley, you will find a fascinating range of decorating styles, interior design ideas and old house tips.
Art in the Pocket Park in our new Park on Turner will tempt you with paintings and crafts from local artists. Nearby, the sounds of a German Oompah Band will lure you in to "bend an elbow" at the Oktoberfest Biergarten. Old Allentown has it all!
Free parking! Start your tour off with free parking at the Allentown Parking Authority's parking gargage, located at 8th and Linden. Then just hop on the trolley to the first stop at the OAPA office.
Free ride! To make it easy to visit all these homes, we have a free trolley sponsored by Pennrose Properties.
Façades! OAPA completed its 113th façade restoration this year. To celebrate, balloons throughout the district will identify properties improved through this ongoing program.
Try your luck! Stop by the Old Allentown Office and take part in our raffle for gift certificates for local eateries and more, plus purchase tickets for the 50/50 drawing. This is also the place to buy Old Allentown merchandise and pick up information on the neighborhood.
Animal lovers, stop by the pocket park at Eighth and Gordon. Members of the Greyhound Rescue Team will have adoption information and greyhounds available for adoption at the park. |
